A Creation Myth from the Earliest Age
Before kingdoms, before oceans, before the stars had even settled into their places, there existed only two forces in the void: Chaos and Order.
Chaos was endless motion — wild, untamed, and ever-changing.
Order was structure — still, patient, and eternal.
For ages beyond counting, the two forces clashed across the emptiness. Chaos shattered what Order created, and Order reshaped what Chaos destroyed. Yet neither could triumph, for both were necessary to existence itself.
From their endless struggle, something unexpected was born.
A world.
When Chaos and Order collided with such magnitude that even the void trembled, a newborn realm formed between them. Mountains rose like broken teeth from the earth, molten rivers burned across the surface, and storms raged across skies that had not yet learned calm.
This world would one day be known as Greystar.
But the world was unstable. The forces that created it threatened to tear it apart before life could ever take hold.
Seeing this, Chaos and Order forged guardians to stabilize their creation.
From the breath of Chaos and the bones of Order came the First Dragons.
They were not merely beasts of flame and wing.
They were living embodiment’s of the world’s balance.
The Four First Dragons
The first dragon to rise from the molten earth was Pyraxis, the Flamefather.
His scales glowed like living embers, and his wings spread fire across the newborn land. With every sweep of his tail, volcanoes erupted and the molten core of the world was pushed deep beneath the surface. Where Pyraxis flew, the land hardened and cooled.
He forged the bones of the world.
From the storms above descended Aeralith, the Sky Sovereign.
Her wings spanned the horizon, and every beat scattered winds across the heavens. She lifted the choking ash of the young world and carved the first currents of air. Clouds gathered beneath her wings, and the skies began to breathe.
Aeralith gave the world its breath and its weather.
From the depths of Chaos rose Thaloryn, the Tide Mother.
Her body was vast and silver like moonlit water. As she coiled across the land, valleys filled with oceans and rivers began their endless journey to the sea. Where her scales touched the earth, life-giving waters gathered.
Thaloryn carved the oceans and rivers of Greystar.
Last to awaken was Terravorn, the Stone Warden.
Slow, ancient, and immense beyond measure, Terravorn burrowed through the crust of the world. With his passing, mountains rose, valleys deepened, and the continents found their shape. His claws carved the first great ranges — the ancestors of the Nightfell Mountains and countless others.
Terravorn gave the world its foundation.
The Shaping of Greystar
For centuries beyond counting, the First Dragons circled the world, each weaving their power into the land.
Pyraxis tempered the molten heart.
Thaloryn cooled the land with seas.
Aeralith balanced sky and storm.
Terravorn anchored the earth itself.
Together they transformed chaos into a living realm.
Forests grew.
Rivers flowed.
Creatures stirred in the wild.
Magic itself seeped into the bones of the world, carried in the breath of the dragons.
It is said that every ley line in Greystar traces the path where a First Dragon once flew.
The Disappearance
When the world had finally stabilized and life had taken root, the First Dragons knew their work was finished.
Some legends say they returned to the void to continue the eternal balance between Chaos and Order.
Others believe they descended into the deepest places of the world — into caverns older than mountains and oceans deeper than light.
A few ancient texts claim something even stranger:
That the dragons did not leave at all.
Instead, they became part of Greystar itself.
The fire beneath the earth.
The winds above the clouds.
The tides of the ocean.
The stone beneath every mountain.
The Last Mystery
Thousands of years have passed since any mortal has seen a First Dragon.
Scholars argue whether they were ever real.
Priests say they are watching.
Arcane Pathfinders whisper something else entirely:
That the balance between Chaos and Order is beginning to shift again.
And if the world ever begins to unravel…
The First Dragons may rise once more.
