A mysterious figure in a dark hooded cloak stands against a swirling cosmic backdrop of vibrant colors, with glowing eyes that suggest power. The text overlay reads, 'Chaos chooses its vessel. And this time... it chose a prince born without magic.'

Long before the seas filled their basins or the mountains rose from the earth, before the sky knew the stars and before time itself had a name, only two forces existed.

They were not gods.

They were not beings.

They were Order and Chaos.

Order was stillness.
Order was structure.
Order was the silent shape of things that might one day be.

Chaos was motion.
Chaos was change.
Chaos was possibility without limit.

For an age beyond counting, the two forces drifted through the emptiness of the Void without ever touching. Order created nothing. Chaos brought forth nothing. The universe remained unborn.

But the Void itself was restless.

And in that endless darkness, Chaos stirred.

Chaos stretched outward like a storm chasing the horizon. It moved aimlessly, without purpose, expanding until it finally clashed with the peaceful edges of Order.

The moment they touched, the first miracle occurred.

Light.

A single flash erupted, tearing through the darkness of the Void. The clash of Order and Chaos shattered the silence of eternity, sending waves of energy rushing across the newborn universe. From that initial collision, the foundations of the world were laid. Order shaped the energy into structure, while Chaos filled it with life.

Mountains emerged from molten rock. Oceans formed from clouds of vapor. The sky spread wide above the developing world, and the first stars ignited into existence like distant watchfires.

But the clash between Order and Chaos left something behind.

Fragments of their power spread across the young world like sparks from a great fire.

These fragments became the first magic.

The Flow of the Arcane

Where the fragments of Chaos struck the earth, rivers of invisible energy started to flow beneath the surface. These currents moved through mountains, forests, and oceans, creating vast networks of power.

These were the ley lines.

The ley lines were the living veins of the world, channeling the lingering energy of Chaos through the structured fabric of reality.

Most living beings could not perceive them.

But some could.

The first humans to discover these currents became the original sorcerers.

They didn’t understand where their power came from. They only knew that the world was alive with hidden energy, and through careful study, they could bend that energy to their will.

These early discoveries led to the development of the first magical traditions.

Arcane magic.

Elemental magic.

The ancient practices that would eventually shape entire civilizations.

The Gift and the Burden of Chaos

Yet not all magic came from the flowing ley-lines.

Deep within the currents of power, fragments of Chaos itself persisted.

These fragments were too unstable for ordinary people to control. They didn’t act like spells or rituals. They altered reality based on their own will.

Once in many generations, one of these fragments would awaken.

And when it arrived, Chaos would look for a vessel.

The selected person would become more than just mortal—a channel for the oldest force to re-enter the world.

Most vessels were destroyed by the force they carried.

A few endured long enough to alter history.

Because chaos is more than just magic.

Chaos is the force that created magic.

The Scholars of Greystar

Within Greystar’s libraries, scholars debate the truth behind this ancient story.

Some believe the myth is symbolic—a poetic way to explain the natural appearance of magical energy.

Others insist it is literal history, handed down through centuries of oral tradition.

But one detail is universally agreed upon by every mage, priest, and historian.

Magic is not merely a tool.

Magic is the lingering echo of the moment when Order and Chaos created the universe.

And as long as those two forces remain, the world will never truly be at peace.

Because the same power that gives life to the world can also reshape it.

Or destroy it.
